스타크래프트가 조만간 1.12 패치를 앞두고 있는 것으로 확인됐다.
블리자드 관계자는 "스타크래프트 기술팀이 1.12 패치를 완성하고 마지막 테스트 단계에 들어갔다"며 "곧 패치가 나오게 될 것"이라고 19일 말했다.
이 관계자가 밝힌 1.12 패치의 내용에 따르면 그동안 버그 수정에만 그쳤던 작업과는 달리 기능 개선에 초점을 맞추고 있어 스타크 프로게이머 등 e스포츠 관계자들에게 어떤 형태로든 영향을 주게될 것으로 보인다.
특히 워크래프트3에서나 지원했던 편리한 기능들이 새롭게 스타크래프트에 추가됐다는 점이 눈에 띈다. 건물을 선택하고 마우스 오른쪽 버튼을 클릭하면 ‘랠리포인트’가 활성화되는 것이 대표적이다.
하지만 테란,프로토스,저그 종족에 대한 밸런스 조정은 '여전히' 없는 것으로 알려졌다.
이외에 스타크 1.12에서는 게임 내에서 지원하지 않았던 한글 채팅이 가능해지며 방장 기능이 강화됐고 온라인 친구 찾기 기능이 추가됐다. 또한 패치와 함께 게임 해킹인 맵핵을 막기 위한 프로그래밍도 강화된다.
또 '로스트템플' 등 대표적인 래더맵 3개에도 변화가 있을 예정이다.
이번 패치와 관련해 블리자드 관계자는 "오랫동안 포럼 등에서 요구했던 부분들을 스타크래프트 기술팀에서 수용해 제작한 패치"라며 "한글채팅 등 한국 게이머들이 요구한 부분들이 많이 포함됐다"고 강조했다.
*Main New Features with StarCraft Patch 1.12
1) In the multiplayer chat screen, you will now be able to see a preview of the map that will be played. Knowing the layout of the map that they’ll be playing on prior to the start of the game will allow players to better prepare their strategies.
2) The patch will add a feature that allows the creator of a private Battle.net game to make the game public under the creator's name in multiplayer chat screen. This will allow game creators to easily open the game up to other players if not all of the players for the private game show up.
3) The patch will add full Korean language support for Battle.net and in-game chat.
4) Another handy feature that the patch will add is a Friends List and button that allows you to keep track of your friends on Battle.net.
5) The patch will also add a Friend Mail feature that allows you to email members of your Friends List.
6) Similar to Warcraft III and Diablo II, the patch will implement password-recovery and email-registration features so that you can recover your password via email.
7) Also implemented with the patch will be a minimap ping, which teammates can use to call attention to or direct each other to different parts of the map.

9) We will be including updated versions of three of the most popular ladder maps: Lost Temple, Dire Straits, and Rivalry. We made changes to these maps in order to better suit the newer style of ladder play.
